This Intermediate Pet First Aid course is designed for pet owners who want to expand their knowledge beyond the basics, as well as pet professionals who have a responsibility for the animals in their care.
Building on fundamental first aid principles, this course explores a wider range of medical emergencies, injuries, and illnesses that may affect dogs, cats, and other companion animals. You’ll learn how to assess an emergency situation, perform a systematic patient assessment, recognise signs of serious illness, provide appropriate first aid, and stabilise an injured or unwell pet while arranging prompt veterinary care.
The course also covers common emergencies such as wounds, bleeding, choking, poisoning, heatstroke, allergic reactions, and cardiopulmonary emergencies. In addition, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of safe handling techniques, bandaging, shock management, and the contents and use of a pet first aid kit.
Throughout the course, you’ll develop the confidence to make informed decisions during stressful situations while understanding the importance of working within the limits of first aid and seeking veterinary treatment whenever necessary.
